“We sing covers of songs, but we do it without any instruments. It's all from our mouths!”
This was one of the lines of Brittany Snow in the film, Pitch Perfect.
She was just one of the characters in the film where she played the role of
Chloe. Other characters were the following: Bella Swan’s friend in the Twilight Saga, Anna Kendrick, who played the role of Beca who is the main character of
the movie; Skylar Astin as Jesse, the lover of Beca; and Anna Camp as Aubrey,
the current president of the Barden Bellas when Beca joined. The description of
Chloe for their club, Barden Bellas, was the distinction of the movie from
other movies: a cappella singing.
I
am a musically inclined person. Watching a film like Pitch Perfect is a big
yes. What made me love the movie is its approach to music. I have seen several
musical movies but not one used a cappella singing as their only music. The
film did not use any background music when the characters were singing. They
produced their own music. The characters produced sounds using their mouths.
This was what caught me in the movie.
Pentatonix |
I
watch performances of a cappella groups like Pentatonix and The Voca People. I
am a fan of them actually. This also triggered me to love the movie. What I
like also about the movie is that they covered popular songs today. However,
they also covered an old song, which is the soundtrack of the movie, The Breakfast Club.
The Voca People |
The producers of the
film did a great job in selecting the cast of the movie. The blending of their
voices came out naturally. I was surprised that Anna Kendrick is also a singer.
Her superb singing skills were shown in the movie. The other characters’ voices
were also outstanding. The producers made the right choice in selecting them.
All in all, I just love the movie and how it intensified my passion for music.
