Sisterakas

Sisterakas is a 2012 Filipino comedy film produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films. It was selected as one of the eight official entries to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival. The film was aired nationwide in December 25, 2012. It was directed by Wenn V. Deramas. The main casts included Ai-Ai Delas Alas, Vice Ganda, and Kris Aquino.

Bernando “Bernice/Totoy” Laurel (Vice Ganda) and Bernadette “Detty” Sabroso-Maningas (Ai-Ai Delas Alas) were half siblings in the movie. They had the same father but they grew up living differently. Detty grew up in a wealthy family while Bernice did not since he was a result of the unfaithfulness of Rafael Sabroso, Detty’s father, to his wife. The two parted ways after Detty’s mother pushed Bernice’s mother down the stairs. After that incident, Bernice swore that he will someday become rich and will make Detty’s family pay for what they did to his mother.

After some years, Bernice did become rich and eventually had the chance to take revenge to Detty when she was hired to become the executive assistant of Bernice in the clothing line Ponytale.

Roselle Hermosa (Kris Aquino), on the other hand, was the head of La Yonelle, the major competitor of Ponytale. She was the one who made several twists in the storyline.

The storyline was presented in a linear way. The childhood days of the main characters were presented first before presenting the current situation. With its linear way of presenting the scenes, the idea that the two main characters exchanged life statuses was grasped easier. Even though there were no changes in the linear storyline, the movie still turned out to be a good one. Filipinos enjoy and appreciate more movies of this kind, anyway. As long as the story of the movie can be understood, it will be an effective way of presenting the movie. However, if the Philippine media tried to have a different approach, I believe that the movie will still be appreciated; especially if the casts were good actors like Vice Ganda and Ai-Ai Delas Alas who have good taste in sense of humor.
